OUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

At Etherie, design begins with the belief that even the smallest accessory can be considered with intention. A scrunchie may be something worn every day, but that does not mean it has to feel ordinary. We approach each collection as a complete visual story, thinking not only about the individual piece, but about how print, colour, material and proportion come together.

Our prints are developed exclusively for Etherie rather than selected from ready-made fabric catalogues. From there, we build the accompanying colour palette carefully. The aim is not simply to choose shades that match the print, but to create colours that have their own character and remain easy to wear on their own. Sometimes that means deepening a familiar shade, softening it or adjusting its undertone until it feels right. The differences can be subtle, but they change how a colour feels once it is translated onto silk.

Material is just as important to the design. We work with 100% mulberry silk because of how it feels against the hair, but also because of the way silk carries colour and catches light. The same shade can look softer, richer or more dimensional as the fabric moves, which is why we consider the finished piece rather than simply selecting colours from a screen or swatch.

We also believe good design should continue beyond how something looks on the day it is purchased. Etherie pieces are made to be worn repeatedly, not kept for special occasions, and our Lifetime Promise reflects that philosophy. If the elastic fails, the stitching separates or unexpected colour bleeding occurs under normal use and care, we will replace the scrunchie.

Ultimately, Etherie is about bringing more thought to an everyday object. We want each piece to feel distinctive without being difficult to wear, expressive without becoming disposable, and beautiful enough to enjoy while still being made for real life.
